Automotive AC Valves | Expert Valve Supplier & Manufacturer

Oct 22, 2025

Valves are the “invisible heart” of automotive air conditioning systems. While many know the expansion valve is crucial for AC performance, other valves—such as control valves, check valves, and solenoid valves—also work quietly behind the scenes to regulate refrigerant flow, control system pressure, and maintain optimal temperature balance. At Anchor Group, we share expert knowledge on all types of automotive AC valves and provide high-quality solutions to enhance your vehicle’s air conditioning efficiency and reliability.

Types of Automotive AC Valves

AC Valves

AC Valves

Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV)

The Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV), also called a thermostatic expansion valve, regulates refrigerant flow into the evaporator, ensuring optimal cooling and protecting the compressor from liquid refrigerant damage. By controlling flow based on temperature and superheat, the TXV keeps the system stable and efficient.

Electronic Expansion Valve (EXV/EEV)

The Electronic Expansion Valve (EXV/EEV) dynamically adjusts refrigerant flow using real-time data from temperature, pressure, and superheat sensors. Controlled via a stepper motor or solenoid actuator, it ensures precise superheat management, energy efficiency, and compressor protection.

Solenoid Valve

A Solenoid Valve is an electrically operated valve that controls refrigerant flow to components such as compressors or multi-zone HVAC systems. It enables precise system control, optimizes cooling performance, and protects system components from damage.

Evaporator Control Valve

The Evaporator Control Valve regulates the refrigerant flow to different sections of the evaporator, allowing for precise temperature control in multi-zone HVAC systems. Balancing refrigerant distribution improves passenger comfort and system efficiency, especially in luxury or multi-zone vehicles.

Check Valve

The Check Valve allows refrigerant to flow in only one direction, preventing backflow and protecting the compressor. It is commonly installed at the compressor outlet.

Orifice Tube / Capillary Tube

The Orifice Tube, also known as a Capillary Tube, is a fixed-throttle device that controls the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. Commonly used in traditional or economy-class automotive AC systems, it ensures proper expansion and cooling without the need for a thermal expansion valve. It is simple, reliable, and widely applied in older vehicle models.

Four-Way Reversing Valve

The Four-Way Reversing Valve is used in heat pump or dual-mode automotive AC systems to switch between cooling and heating modes. By reversing the flow of refrigerant, it enables the system to either absorb heat from the cabin or expel heat outside, making it a key component in vehicles with heat pump technology or hybrid/electric cars.

Bypass Valve

A Bypass Valve regulates system pressure by diverting a portion of refrigerant when pressure is too high or too low, protecting the system and ensuring stable operation.

Shut-off Valve

The Shut-off Valve allows manual control of refrigerant flow for maintenance and repair. It increases operational flexibility by isolating sections of the system.

Balancing Valve

The Balancing Valve ensures even refrigerant flow across multiple branches of the system, optimizing performance in multi-branch HVAC or refrigeration setups.

Pressure Relief Valve

The Pressure Relief Valve is a safety device that automatically releases refrigerant when the system pressure exceeds safe limits. It protects components such as the compressor, hoses, and condenser from damage due to excessive pressure. These valves are typically found in high-pressure circuits and are essential for the safe operation of automotive air conditioning systems.

Compressor Unloading Valve / Discharge Valve

The Compressor Unloading Valve or Discharge Valve is integrated into variable displacement compressors to control refrigerant output. Adjusting the compressor’s capacity helps maintain stable system pressure, optimize cooling performance, and improve energy efficiency in modern automotive AC systems.
