What is Refrigerant Oil?
Refrigeration oil is a specialized lubricant used for the moving components inside a refrigeration compressor(compressor oil). Its main functions include lubricating moving parts, providing cooling, ensuring proper sealing, and reducing operational noise. Refrigeration oil is essential in a refrigeration system, playing a critical role in ensuring compressor performance, improving system efficiency, and extending equipment lifespan.

How Much Refrigerant Oil to Add When Replacing Car A/C Parts
| Auto AC Components | Refrigerant-oil replenishment (mL) | |
| Compressor | / | 40-60 |
| Condensor | No visible oil leak | 10-30 |
| Heavy oil leak | 40-60 | |
| Evaporator | / | 40-50 |
| Receiver-drier/ | / | 10-20 |
| Refrigerant hoses | No visible oil leak | Do not add oil |
| Heavy oil leak | 10-20 | |
| System oil loss | No visible oil leak | Do not add oil |
| Heavy oil leak | 10-20 | |
| Complete system replacement | / | 120-170 |
Steps to Add Refrigerant Oil to a Car AC System
- Step 1: Close the high-pressure manual valve: Ensure the high-pressure manual valve is closed on both the low-pressure and high-pressure gauges.
- Step 2: Connect the high-pressure hose to the refrigerant oil cup: Remove the high-pressure hose from the manifold gauge set and insert it into the refrigerant oil cup. Keep the high-pressure hand valve and the low-pressure valve closed.
- Step 3: Open the service valve to draw oil into the system: Use the low-pressure hose connected to the suction and discharge ports to pull the oil from the oil cup into the system.
- Step 4: Close the service valve immediately when oil injection is almost complete. This prevents air from entering the system.
- Step 5: Evacuate the system
Vacuum Process
- Reconnect the high-pressure hose to the manifold gauge set.
- Open the high-pressure manual valve and start the vacuum pump to evacuate the high-pressure hose first.
- Open the service valve to evacuate the entire system, first down to 98 kPa, then to 2 kPa to remove air that entered with the oil.
- At this point, the refrigerant oil remains on the high-pressure side and will return to the compressor when the system starts running.
